Tuesday, July 20, 2010 I bring you greetings and wish you a blessed 2009.
It seems at this time of year we have a much greater opportunity to share the word of truth with others and bring the life changing message of Christ. This year is ending and a new one will be here before we know it. So it is with the end of this life and the new one that is around the corner.
This year has been full of me witnessing many leaving this life and moving on to the next life in glory. I praise God that, as far as I know, they all moved on to Glory in the presence of God. Yet just this week I got news that a high school friend of my son Simon moved on to the next life. Too many of our urban children are moving on too early. Far too many, it seems when one is too many, have not developed a life changing personal relationship with Christ.
That is why Youth Resources exists - for the advancement of urban youth and youth working organizations to reduce crime, poverty, illiteracy and fatherlessness. We do this by the discipleship of youth ministers. We also serve as an intermediary organization to assist faith-based organizations. Let me share with you some of the things we were able to do this year and some of the lessons and words from God that I have received.
This year I have been on a plane more than ever been before. I taught at the Rock Solid Youth Worker Retreat. We were in Los Angela at the Urban Youth Worker Institute with scores of Twin Cities youth workers. Orlando, FL and Holland, MI were the locations for two national DeVos training conferences, We also travelled to Freeport and Nassau Bahamas for a mission trip where we handed out over 10,000 books sharing the Good News of Christ and experience over 10,000 commitments and finally we attended the Christian Community Development Association National Meetings in Miami.
The end result of these travels has been two things: 1. I have been able to speak into thousands of people’s lives from youth workers to Pre-School students this year.
2. The training I have experienced at the national and international level will be passed on to the youth workers we train and encourage to restore the Twin Cities.
We have been able to also deliver life change right here in the city through sponsorship of Urban Reload, youth worker lunches, local DeVos training, community outreaches and prayer walks.
Several other significant achievements this year merit attention. The DeVos training that Becky and I are undertaking is helping us tremendously in leading Youth Resources. A strong coalition of future leaders for our youth is being created through this process. Also, a full audit for fiscal years 2007 and 2008 was conducted this year with thumbs up for our financial practices. During a week- long fast from food and speech that I did in the middle of an abandoned public playground the word of God came to provide monthly training for volunteers, part-time and full-time youth workers. We are doing this with the help of four training partners. Two of these partners are North Central University and TentMakers International. The other two will be announced when we finalize roles and responsibilities of our potential training partners. Watch our web site for more info. We have had countless other times where we were able to encourage youth workers. We have given out over 300 concert tickets with the help of KTIS. We have also provided gift cards with the help of churches and have provided youth workers and churches with equipment, such as the cotton candy machine, popcorn machine and other tools that many of you have helped us procure. We as a nation are experiencing economic crises. I received a word from the Lord about the church. (I only have a little room here to share but I am more than willing to come and speak at your church, home group or bible study or just have coffee with you.)
What the Lord showed me is that we needed to take our citizenship in heaven very seriously. In Philippians 3:20 it talks about us being citizens of heaven. Yet many of us have adopted this world and are living like it in verse 19 there is a warning to not worship our stomachs. In this time of economic crises we need to be as aliens in this world. What does an alien or immigrant do when they get a check – send ˝ of it back home. They know they have a responsibility that they cannot ignore.
We must do more to send our resources to building the Kingdom, our true home. We must live more simply, choose less not more, and give more not less. Give as He freely gives rather than thinking the next purchase will bring peace.
Read the warning in verse 18. Paul warns us “I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.” The word for the Church is to do the opposite of the world: increase our giving – not cut back.
We also need you to prayerfully consider helping us achieve our goal in 2009. Please become one of 100 new monthly partners in any amount in the next 30 days. We also need a few year-end gifts to help us meet our needs. Many say thank you Ron for what you do but don’t want to sacrifice to do what we do. We want to ask you to join our sacrifice. Be a mentor, be a financial partner. We need mentors for kids and we need mentors for youth workers; someone who cares, listens and guides a youth worker through life, business and personal relationships. We also need people that are willing to sacrifice resources. We need to raise nearly $20,000 before the end of the year. Please take time to join us - we need your help, we can’t do it alone.
